Camp I Can with Credit Completion for grades 9 and 10
As a two-part program, Camp I Can with Credit Completion helps students earn a credit that they previously failed to achieve as they develop the learning skills needed for academic success.

What is taught?
In the Camp I Can program, students are actively involved in their learning as they complete tasks involving reading, writing and mathematics. The aim is to improve work habits, including organizational skills, team building skills, taking initiative and completing homework.

In the Credit Completion program, students are encouraged to complete one credit in a highly structured classroom setting with a balance of academic activities supported by skills gained from the Camp I Can program.

Program goals

In Camp I Can, our goals are to:

 

  • develop and improve learning skills
  • involve both independent and group learning activities
  • increase self esteem and motivation
  • improve student literacy and numeracy
In the Credit Completion program, our goals are to:
  • give students another opportunity for success outside the regular school year
  • allow students to finish a credit towards the fulfilment of diploma requirements
Who is eligible to attend?
  • Only students registered in a Peel District School Board secondary school
  • Applied level students, currently in grade 9 or 10, who have previously not been successful in earning the credit

How is the program organized?
In the morning, teachers review the course curriculum with students. Students work individually, in pairs and in groups to complete assignments.

Teachers also assist students achieve good work habits. They provide strategies for using organizational skills to complete homework, and students are often involved in team building exercises.

Students will have a mid-morning break. They may bring a snack or purchase items from a tuck shop or vending machine if available. Students may not leave the school at this time.

Classes take place in the student's home school taught by teachers from their day school.
You must contact your child's school or Counting On You teacher for more information.

When do classes take place?
Classes take place during the month of July.

How do students register?
Students may register only if recommended by their classroom teacher, Counting on You teacher or guidance counsellor, and approved by the principal. Eligible students will be notified in June of their acceptance to the program.

Is transportation provided?
Peel District School Board buses are not provided for Camp I Can with Credit Completion.
